Spartans Add Quebec Power Forward Mitchell Quesnel

Introducing Mitchell Quesnel

The Almaguin Spartans are thrilled to announce the addition of Mitchell Quesnel. The 2006 forward from Chateauguay, Quebec, joins the Spartans from Ontario Hockey Academy CSSHLE U18.

General Manager’s Insights

Spartans General Manager David Forde had this to say about the addition of Quesnel: “I am really happy to have Mitchell joining our club. He is a young forward with a ton of potential. He brings size at 6’2, plays physical, has a strong hockey IQ, and is very coachable. Mitchell is a player I think we can really develop in our program and is a player with a high ceiling. He has all the tools to be a top-level junior player; he just needs the opportunity and the program to push him.”

Quesnel’s Role and Expectations

Mitchell had an off year last year but is looking to rebound. The season prior, he put up 37 points in 25 games at the Quebec High School level. We believe that Mitchell will be a difference-maker in our lineup this season. His physicality and hockey intelligence will be invaluable assets to our team. I really look forward to seeing how he can contribute on a nightly basis.

We invite our fans and supporters to join us in welcoming Mitchell Quesnel to the Almaguin Spartans. We are excited to see his impact on the ice and his growth within our program. Welcome to the Spartans, Mitchell!

He brings a positive attitude and shows up to the rink every day with a smile on his face, ready to work hard. Stevie has great size and strong technical skills. With our goalie coach Shea Cooper’s help, we will push Steven to be more aggressive in his style of play. This will really help him develop further.”

Austrian Forward Returns

The Almaguin Spartans are thrilled to announce the re-signing of 2003 Forward Christoph Kirchmayer. Last season the Austrian forward missed a good portion of the season with knee surgery, but when he was in the Spartans line up he was a big contributor putting up 11 points in 8 games.
Spartans Head Coach Myles Pepin had this to say about the return of Kirchmayer “Were really happy to have Chris back with us for another reason. When he came to us via trade from the Rattlers, he was given an opportunity to jump into our top 6 and he certainly made the most of his opportunity. He’s a honest player, that plays a 200 foot game, can create offence and is a team first player.
I think with Chris being healthy and fully recovered, he is ready to have a big season. He is also a player we put a priority on re-signing, due the leadership he brings to our team on and off the ice. He has pro level habits in his training and preparation that will help set the tone and build the right culture with our group right from the first day of training camp.”
Welcome back Christoph Kirchmayer!!!

Spartans Add French Defender

The Almaguin Spartans are happy to announce the signing of Gabriel Sabourin. The 2004 born defensemen comes to the Spartans from Montpellier, France where he played for Occitanie U20 and the Montepellier Vipers France2.
Spartans General Manager David Forde had this to say about the addition of Sabourin “We are very happy that Gabriel is joining our program. He is a veteran defensemen who I think can play against other teams top lines. He is a strong skater and thinks defensive first, which is key in playing a shut down role. We also think Gabriel will be able to chip in offensively and gives us another solid option on the power play.
His experience at the men’s second division level, has taught him a lot in regards to preparation and simplifying his game. As well as strong on and off ice training habits. Gabriel has been in a leadership role on many of his teams in the past and we feel his leadership skills will fit in well with our group here and the team culture we want this season.”

He had a slow start to last season and struggled a bit to adjust to the North American style of play, but once he did he was a valuable player for us being able to play forward and defense.
Noah also brings toughness to our line up and is always willing to stick up and defend his teammates. He’s a team first player and is willing to help the team in anyway he can and at any position. Spartans Captain Re-Signs

For Canada Day the Spartans wanted to give our fans something special and we really think we have with the announcement of the return of Captain Gustavs Stikans. The 2003 born Latvian defensemen returns for his 4th season in the GMHL. Last season Stikans had 18 points in 39 games.
Spartans Assistant Coach/Defense Coach Bryan Austin had this to say about the return of the Stikans “I’m really excited to have Gus back with us for his final season. Gus was a warrior for us last year, playing big minutes every night. He battled through injuries a lot of the season and never complained. He is a team first guy that plays an honest game. He puts the team ahead of himself and that’s a big part of being a good leader.
Gus will be a good example for our younger defensemen and I feel with us having a much stronger team and d core this season, that Gus is going to be able to produce a lot more offensively. He’s a guy I can throw out in any situation and a guy I rely on heavily to match up against the other teams top players. “
Welcome back Gus
